These units are part of a family of diffuse sensors that use the technique of Background Suppression to minimise the risk of false switching caused by reflected light from objects beyond the target. This is achieved using a method known as the ‘Triangulation Principle’ which, affectively, focusses the light beam onto the target at a preset distance. The reflected light is picked up by a series of receiving elements within the unit and an output is given. Should the target move and a reflection obtained from an object further away than the preset distance, the angle of received light will change. This in turn will change the output given by the receiving elements and the unit will not respond.
Housed in a subminiature plastic case, these units are supplied pre-cabled and complete with a mounting bracket. Powered by 10-30VDC the units are available in NPN or PNP N/O output configuration. They feature adjustable sensing distance, LED output status indication and pulsed visible red beam (to allow for simple installation). Sealed to IP65 with short circuit and reverse polarity protection, these units would be ideal in ‘look-down’ positions on conveyor belts where space is restricted, counting applications or presence detection on bowl feeders etc.
